Expectations without effort lead to disappointment. Expectations based on the results of past efforts lead to satisfaction. The difference is effort not expectations.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
I think this is an intermediary step to changing the way we interact with the world around us.
I wrote in You Have Two Beds? about always being nice and cheerful to someone who hated me. Being nice to him made me look good when he responded with hatred.
Over time I realized being cheerful was easier.
Some people will surely say that being nice or positive just to mess with others is bad behavior, but it’s a step in the right direction.
