The more you think about a conspiracy the bigger it gets
“The more you think about a conspiracy, the bigger it gets.”
On a simple level, this is about action.
Many times, I find myself thinking about what I should do, rather than doing something. Sadly, many opportunities closed while I was thinking.
On a deeper level it’s also about clearing away mental garbage. Nothing productive comes from obsessing on things outside my control. Knowing this, I don’t have to get upset with the way Congress is acting or whatever subject I latch onto to avoid looking at myself.
Now when I start thinking about something, and my mind wants to run off on a delusion, I’ll tell myself, “The more you think about a conspiracy, the bigger it gets.”
It is a reminder for me not to run down those roads, not to waste my time.
This saying also applies to faith. . .
I have many fundamentalists among my friends. Most of these fundamentalists respond to any question or comment as if it is an attack on them or their beliefs. Their paradigms tell them to deny questions, and their spiritual advisors seek to keep them from being tainted by reinforcing this aspect of their faith.
When the faithful respond as if they are attacked, they are really strengthening their convictions. They argue their points using circular logic, like a scratched record repeating itself. This repeating of quotes solidifies their beliefs.
In addition, when their quotes are not received the way they think they should be received, they run back into the arms of the flock where they are accepted. Sadly this behavior is also designed into the paradigm to create unity within the group.
Side note here: if you are feeling offended by the above paragraphs ask yourself if you would feel the same way if I used multi-level marketing or a specific cult like the Hare Krishna as an example. If your honest answer is no, then why are you feeling attacked?
This is one of my favorite sayings.

I am very much liking your tidbits of clarity, or as Seth Godin would say, “your lens view”. I will be back to read more, and yes I have missed you.
Terry I agree with you to a certain extent in that “The more you think about a conspiracy the bigger it gets.”, but I disagree that we should just let things slide because it is out of our control. Many tings may be out of our direct control but when we see an injustice like what is happening in Washington, we as citizens have a responsibility to stand up to it and speak out in everyway we can.
You only have to look back at Germany and WWII, when Hitler was coming to power and every one thought oh he won’t do that, he said he wasn’t going to do anything, oh it’s going to be alright, and what happened, millions of Jews, Christians, Russians, Americans and others were killed for what, being Passive and neglecting our responsibility to speak out and resist because we think it’s out of our control. I have a problem with that. I don’t think you can take the same view and apply it to simple things that distract us on a daily basis that is a different issue. Seeing our country fundamentally changed into a Socialist/Marxist society with no freedoms to even think or make decisions for ourselves is not the same as fretting over too much junk email.
Obviously there is a certain disparity between the two, but both are things out of our control that we experience everyday. The real question is which one can impact the lives of millions of people, or impact just one individual. I do agree that we can allow ourselves to be distracted with all kinds of things, I go through this daily and I think what we have to do is train ourselves to keep a balance within our lives.
Our faith, beliefs, and convictions are part of our character and who we are, and for me as a Christian I understand many challenges of what may see as attacks are just God’s way of molding and shaping us into who He wants us to become. I believe everything has a purpose in our lives even all that stuff like what is happening in Washington, and nothing God’s plan for us takes many paths in life, what we have to continually do is realize that nothing happens in our life without God’s approval. I know for myself, and how frustrating it is for me with Congress and the President and our march to Socialism, I have to stop and r4emind myself that even though it is not what I want to happen, God must have a reason, and for me the one positive thing that is coming out of all this stuff is people are starting to wake up and pay attention to what is going which they should have been doing all along. It’s not going to be easy, but with God we will get through it!
