When you chase dollars
“When you chase dollars, you get dollars. When you chase dreams, you get fulfillment.”
I’m 46 years old as I’m writing this, and I’ve only had a job for 16 months in my life. I’ve always been able to go out and make money. Not lots of money, but enough to cover my wants and needs.
Somewhere along the line, I started looking for the big one. I would do projects, and bring in hundreds or thousands of dollars. Then I would abandon those projects because they weren’t bringing in millions.
Later, I got even worse. I’d lay out a project. Then look at it and decide it wouldn’t make me a million. So I would just toss it aside and move on to the next one.
Luckily for me, I soon learned that rather than chasing the big one, I needed to aim for a goal. Something out in the future, that was an explanation of who I wanted to be and what I wanted to have in my life, in terms of people and material things. I started working towards that point.
I defined my future, then started looking for stepping stones to move me closer. I stopped looking at my activities as a way to get rich, but rather as a path to my becoming a successful person.
This had a profound effect on my life. As I moved forward I felt a sense of accomplishment. These accomplishments helped me feel better about myself. As my self confidence increased, I became more productive.
As I became more productive money came to me. My skills improved, and my results increased.
“The wheels on the bus go round and round. Round and round.”
